HISTORY

As early as the 1970’s some of our more progressive coaches (teacher/instructresses as they were known then) tried to form an association for the benefit of coaches and to provide workshops and seminars for coach education.

It wasn’t until after the formation of the national body for Calisthenics, the Australian Calisthenic Federation (A.C.F.), when the Calisthenic Association formed a sub-committee as part of its Committee of Management, that a more formal approach was taken. As the role of the sub-committee expanded to cover the provision of all the coaching education required to comply on a national basis it became obvious that a separately run coaches association was necessary for the benefit of coaches and coaching in general, so with the full support of coaches the Calisthenic S.A. Coaches Association was formed by a general meeting on 14th March, 1993.

Initially we were not represented by a coach on the C.A.S.A. Committee of Management but gradually our role in coaching matters was recognised and today we have a representative (elected at the CAL.S.A.C. A.G.M. each year) on the C.A.S.A. Committee of Management.
