AUSTRALIAN
SOCIETY OF CALISTHENIC ADJUDICATORS
SOUTH AUSTRALIAN BRANCH
History of the Group
It is recorded that the very first meeting of the Association of Calisthenic Adjudicators was held on 27th February 1976 at the home of Mrs Binstead, Melbourne Victoria. In 1977 a delegate of South Australian and West Australian adjudicators travelled to Melbourne to align with the Victorian branch. At that time there was no official accreditation and seniority was taken on experience alone. Ladies were allowed to commence adjudicating immediately on joining. They also wrote for experienced adjudicators to gain knowledge, but this was not mandatory. This meant that many were "thrown in at the deep end" to judge at a competition. One could say that experience was "gained on the job". How things have changed!
Senior Adjudicators:
Rhonda Pilkington, Glenda Greenough,
Eileen Trebilcock & Audrey Parsons
Intermediate Adjudicators:
Rita Ellard & Diane Harris
Cadet Adjudicators:
Christine Butler, Kay Butterworth,
Glenys Anderson & Shirley Tilley
The South Australian ASCA Sub-Branch commenced in the 1980/1981 calendar year. The original members were Rita Ellard, Valerie Engel, Jennifer Feutrill, Diane Harris, Lynette Edwards, Mavis Scott, Rhonda Pilkington, Shirley Tilley and Audrey Parsons. The initial Sub Branch meetings were held at the YMCA Hall, North Adelaide, after that, for many years meetings were held in the homes of the members. More recently, the meeting venue has changed to the Boardroom of the Royalty Theatre.
Cheryle Ablett was the first accredited cadet who commenced her training in 1982. Helen Broad joined her in 1983, Rhondda Ryan in 1988, Karen Hicks in 1989, Heather Hawley in 1991, Diane Reynolds in 1993, Ina Laybourne and Juliette Barry in 1995, Adele Donaldson in 2000, Annette Buxton and Karen Frampton in 2003 and in 2004 Kate Loveridge (Morton) Jeanette Lunnie, Rebecca Miles, Dianne Nicholls and Debrah Wood became cadet adjudicators.
5th National Conference in 2006
In three year increments, a National Conference
is held within the capital cities of Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. The 2006
conference will take place in Adelaide, usually timed for January to correspond
and accommodate school holidays. This is a forum where many Calisthenic issues
related to adjudicating are raised and thoroughly discussed, then taken back
to the relevant states for more discussion and action. This is an invaluable
avenue of communication and interaction between the states, where discussion
can be nation wide, and is a great way of refreshing acquaintances and forging
friendships.
